Insuring Your Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle

When you buy a wheelchair accessible vehicle, it is important to choose insurance that understands adapted cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles and the needs of disabled drivers and passengers.

Wheelchair Cars works with Fish Insurance because they specialise in disability and mobility insurance, including cover for adapted cars and WAVs.

Why specialist cover matters

Your vehicle may not be standard, so your insurance should understand that

Adaptations are usually added to make a vehicle more practical and accessible, not to improve performance or appearance. A specialist insurer should understand why those changes matter.

1

Adapted Vehicles

Cover designed for cars that have been modified for disability or mobility needs.

2

WAVs

Insurance for wheelchair accessible vehicles, including adapted layouts and accessibility equipment.

3

Mobility Needs

A policy designed with disabled drivers and passengers in mind.

Cover your new vehicle

Get specialist car insurance for your WAV

Fish’s disability car insurance can cover adapted cars and wheelchair accessible vehicles. You can arrange a quote online at a time that suits you.

It is always worth comparing the benefits of specialist disability car insurance against a standard policy, especially if your vehicle has a ramp, lowered floor, wheelchair restraints, driver adaptations or mobility equipment.

Always tell your insurer about any adaptations on the vehicle. Undisclosed modifications can cause problems with cover.

Restrictions may apply, including where the car is stolen and unrecovered, not being repaired, or taken to a garage of your choice.

Breakdown Cover

Breakdown support may include repair or recovery. If roadside assistance or a temporary repair is not possible, onward transportation may be arranged within policy limits.

European cover may be available at extra cost. Parts are usually not included.

Car Adaptations

Fish states that loss or damage to vehicle adaptations can be covered for replacement as new, up to the limit shown on your schedule.

Deliberate damage and undisclosed changes or modifications may be excluded.

Personal Belongings

Fish’s car insurance page states that mobility aids being transported in the vehicle may be covered up to £2,500, with separate limits for personal belongings. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
